Following this, he worked for a time building his own business as a Freelancer in the animation industry, mainly working on small advertising projects, and working as a 3d Generalist.  This entailed both the artistic and engineering ends of the spectrum, with work ranging from the sculpting and texturing of 3d models, through rigging, animation, and testing tools.  Aside from advertising, he worked on varied corporate projects and also the creation of a pilot for an animated TV show pitch.

Unfortunately, in late 2011 his health, which hadn’t been great in the first place, took a significant turn for the worse.  He nearly died, and was rendered bed-bound as a result.  The illness robbed him of both his career and his independence.  In the time since, he has been on a very long road to recovery.  There have been a great many setbacks over the years, however he has battled back to the point he is no longer bed-bound, or chair-bound, and is making progress rebuilding his life.

After several excruciating years battling one health-crisis after another, he decided to take up painting as a way to pass the time and distract himself somewhat from the constant pain caused by his illness. This was only successful some of the time, and only at points when his health was strong enough to do so. So he dusted off his old tools from his previous life as a working artist, and took up the (digital) paintbrush once again after what seemed like a lifetime.

One of the reasons he showed an early interest in computer graphics was that his health did not allow him to use traditional tools. Paints, inks, clays, etc. have never been an option, and his love of visual effects coupled with healthcare concerns made the world of computer graphics a no-brainer. The details of how he works the way he does can be found here.  In 2018 he finished his first pieces he felt he could be proud of. In the time since then he has created several more, all of which can be found here.

While trapped away from the world, he sought to use his skills to create beauty. After so many years of painting to please no one bar himself, he is happy to finally be in a place where he can showcase his work to the world. So he created Lawton.Art. He hopes you enjoy it.
