Artist's Note:
I decided that after painting Fatso I had to take a break from animals for a while, and explore other painting subjects. I will definitely be painting lots more animals in the future though.
For my first non-animal painting, I decided to return again to painting human portraits. I wanted to keep this one focused entirely on the face, with as little distraction surrounding it as possible. I also chose to go with a largely monotone painting with hints of colour for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it would allow me to focus in on the forms themselves without worrying about colour blending. Secondly though, I have always been a big fan of artwork done in this manner be it in film and animation or paintings and pictures. There’s just something about the impact of both the chosen colour and the amount of it used in a piece that interests me. This is likely something I’ll explore further later.
I decided to go with the hair, and then the iris to match, to draw the whole piece together.
