Artist's Note:

After the African Wild Dog and the Sphynx Cat, I wanted to try my hand at something completely different. I’m a huge lover of reptiles, and a massive fan of goofy animals in general. A Panther Chameleon was the perfect choice for my next painting. These curious little animals are found naturally in Madagascar, living in tropical forest biomes. They grow to around 50cm long, and fight for dominance by putting on colour displays on their bodies. I guess it’s as close to a dance off as you’re going to get.

This was a very fun painting to do, although the scales quickly became very confusing to paint due to the sheer number of them and the similarities between them. My aim was to capture a sense of timid curiosity, which I think I achieved quite well. I would definitely like to paint more chameleons in the future. You can find more info on them here.
