Welcome to the Gallery.  Here you will find all of the artwork created by Chris Lawton.  From the latest finished artwork, right back through the archives of his work over the years.  Started mainly with animal portraits, this gallery will expand over time to contain different subjects, styles, and moods. 

In 2024 he began to branch out from animal portraiture, including to begin with both human subjects and more environmental elements in his artwork.  This opened him up to working on different materials and textures, and having to consider how light interacts with different materials, and how to portray these elements within a painting.  The next steps on this artistic journey will most likely include more environmental work, and further portraiture while also exploring stylistic factors.  Each painting tends to lead onto the next, as ideas come to mind throughout the process of painting the artwork, due to the challenges which pop up, but also through moments of sheer inspiration themselves.

Another element which will become more prevalent, is that it is becoming something of a requirement to present video proof of your process these days, due to the AI Generators flooding the art scene.  There is a link below to our general statement regarding AI Generation.  With that said, the generation of video is both somewhat burdensome due to the time it takes, but also a potentially interesting area for development.  So at some point there may be some thematic videos featuring audio discussions of topics alongside process videos of the artwork.  One thing there definitely will be though, is a growing library of short timelapse recordings of the paintings.  These will be on the individual pages for paintings in the gallery below.  At some point there may also be a dedicated video gallery.
